Abstract

In this paper we aim to analyze the Augustus Ovidianus as a representation’s part (Darstellung) in a work understood as a poetic affirmation in which Augustus also is a part, being not a minor character, although not a central one. We will not consider in detail the allusions to Augustus, but the explicit references. Our discussion, besides limiting critical irony as a criterion of interpretation, deals with compositional issues, the use of mythologizing (not only to assimilate the historical part into the mythical tone of Greek stories, but also to convey mythical dignity to the representation) and the poet’s play with recent history in a kind of construction
