Imágenes de los dioses en Cicerón Límites y contradicciones de la teología epicúrea sobre la imagen divina en De Natura Deorum I
Main Article Content
Abstract
In De natura deorum, Cicero presents a striking criticism of the limits and contradictions of Epicurean anthropomorphic theology. Especially addressing Epicurus on the theme of deus effigies hominis et imago (Nat. D. I.103), Cicero demands to the Epicureans a more rigorous definition of the links between the cult image (a historical form of the divine figuration) and the simulacra/imagines directly emanating from the bodies of the gods, denoting the insufficiency of the Epicurean approach to the divine images to support Roman pietas.
