Abstract

In this article we present a status quaestionis of the main critical tendencies of the XXth century about the "Ovidian Aeneid". We propose four methodological parameters in order to explore the sequence: first, to consider the reasons for the inclusion of an Odyssey in the "Ovidian Aeneid", taking into account the discussí­ons about gender and influences throughout the nineties; second, to precise the relationships between the sequence and the Roman end of the work, and the possibilities that, even without a political augustanism, there is an affirmation of Rome; third, to give the idea of apotheosis and Aeneas' apotheosis a highlighted role in the sequence and in the plan of the work; Iastly, to contribute with something to the discussion about the conception of man in the Metamorphoses and its differcnces and complement regarding Virgil
